Sinhagad
Sinhgad meaning Lion Fort, is a fort located near the city of Pune, India situated on a hill which is at an altitude of 800 metres above the surrounding countryside. The fort's location has been strategically important since at least the 14th century and has been the site of many important battles. One of the more famous battles was the recapturing of the fort by Tanaji Malusare, a general for Shivaji in March of 1670. It is said that Tanaji's troops used Bengal monitors, renowned for their tight grip, to climb over the steep walls of the fort. In the ensuing battle, Tanaji was killed, but the fort was successfully captured by his troops. Shivaji, upon hearing the news of the capture of the fort at the cost of Tanaji's death, was greatly aggrieved and is said to have remarked, "The fort is gained, but the lion is lost". Hence the fort, which was called Kondana till then, was renamed to Sinhagad, or The Lion's Fort.

Khadakwasla
Khadakwasla is a moderate sized dam on the Mutha river, located about 20 kilometres southwest of the city of Pune, and named after the nearby village of Khadakwasla. This dam is one of the main sources of water for the city of Pune. Just a few kilometres up the road from the dam lies the Sinhagad Fort and the twin dams of Panshet and Varasgaon which mainly supply water for irrigation. In 1961, the Khadakwasla Dam had to be blown, as the Panshet Dam overflowed, causing devastating floods in the city of Pune. The dam was later rebuilt. Khadakwasla is a favoured spot for couples, and many people come here on weekends and during the monsoon season. Scenic places around the dam include Peacock Bay, the Kudje village, and Neelkanteshwar, located near the Bahuli village just further past Kudje.

Panshet
Panshet is a dam about 50 km southwest of the city of Pune in western India. Along with two other dams nearby (including Khadakwasla), it supplies drinking water to the city of Pune. Panshet is famous due to the disaster in 1962 when the dam wall burst, causing massive flooding in the city of Pune. Although this caused a significant loss of property, there was little to no loss of human life.
